Angel Gomes to Chelsea: Manchester United wonderkid could solve one issue facing Blues

The summer might be a difficult one for Chelsea and Premier League clubs to navigate.

No one is quite sure what the transfer window is going to look like with the ongoing coronavirus having played havoc with the football calendar.

With the financial impact having a hit on the football clubs as well, spending big money might well be difficult.

It means free transfers could be an important area for Chelsea to choose, and one of those being linked with Angel Gomes.

The young Manchester United midfielder’s contract runs out in the summer and negotiations over a new deal have stalled.

The 19-year-old is set to become a free agent and according to reports, Chelsea are keen on bringing the youngster to Stamford Bridge.

However, do the Blues really need a player like Gomes?

He would certainly fit into what Lampard is trying to build at the Blues, with a new, young brand of players coming through.

Lampard has been keen to bring through young players if he believes they are ready to play in the first team, handing eight first team debuts.

However, bringing in another attacking midfielder, who is yet to prove his real worth, could be a risk.

Lampard is keen to add more attacking options to his ranks in order to provide more goals and assists, something they have lacked at times.

But Gomes is yet to show what he can really do in the Premier League, with just 19 minutes of action this season with two substitute appearances.

The Blues have Mason Mount in the role, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek coming back from injury and Hakim Ziyech joining the club in the summer.

Meanwhile, you can’t forget those coming through the academy, with Tino Anjorin set to sign a new deal with the club and is seen as a big player in the future.

While on loan, Conor Gallagher has shown that he could play in the position if the Blues need him to fit into.

Despite that, there is no doubt that Gomes has talent and could bring another option to the Blues, especially if it comes in the form as a free transfer.

Gomes is a player with potential, and there is always room for a player like that within Chelsea’s ranks.

United are keen to get another contract out of their youngster, but if it fails then the Blues could well pounce and solve the issue of Chelsea's transfer problems this summer.
