Angel Gomes pens heartfelt message to Manchester United's Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho

Angel Gomes has reached out to Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho in the aftermath of England's heart-breaking penalty shoot-out defeat against Italy.

Having reached their first major international final since 1966, the Three Lions were defeated in the most cruel fashion at Wembley Stadium on Sunday night

Gianluigi Donnarumma was the hero for the Italians, saving from United -bound Sancho and Arsenal teenager Bukayo Saka as the visitors won 3-2 in a penalty shootout after the match ended 1-1.

Rashford also missed his spot-kick after he and Sancho were summoned from the substitutes bench by manager Gareth Southgate towards the end of extra-time.

It's a decision which sparked plenty of post-match debate, while the heart-broken trio have also been subject to vile racial abuse on social media.

United defender Luke Shaw gave England a dream start by scoring a half-volley that was praised for its incredible technique, but Leonardo Bonucci scored a second-half equaliser before the Azzurri triumphed on penalties.

Posting three separate stories on Instagram, former United starlet Gomes shared emotional messages for Rashford, Sancho and Saka.

Now with Lille on the back of a season-long loan at Boavista, the playmaker featured in the Old Trafford academy alongside Rashford, while he also crossed paths with Sancho during their days in the England youth set-up.

In a message aimed at Rashford, Gomes said: "I love you my brother, this will only make you stronger. You've done so much for the nation. We all love you and are behind you. You are one of the strongest guys I know."

With regards to Sancho, the 20-year-old added: "Love you bro, head up! The best is yet to come."
