Angel Gomes makes Manchester United admission amid uncertain future

Angel Gomes has admitted he still wants to go on and win trophies for Manchester United, despite his future at the club appearing uncertain.

The 19-year-old academy product sees his United contract expire in June - though contract dates could be tweaked in the light of the coronavirus pandemic, which has had a big impact on football.

United recently announced a new deal for Gomes' peer and regular Under-23s teammate Tahith Chong but Gomes, who has been linked with Chelsea and Barcelona, is yet to commit his future.

But speaking in an official United Google Hangout with teammate Andreas Pereira, Gomes spoke about his ambitions at United.

"I've seen it over the years, coming up from the academy and being at United my whole career,” said Gomes.

“It's what I want to go on to do – win trophies for the club.”

The comments will fuel hope that the playmaker could agree new terms with United and extend his stay at the club. He was handed his professional debut by Jose Mourinho as a 16-year-old against Crystal Palace in May 2017 but hasn't kicked on, only featuring in six senior games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, though he regularly stars for the Under-23s and is highly rated by many at Old Trafford.

Gomes also sent a message to supporters amid the uncertainly of the current coronavirus situation.

“Just to say, in this time, to make sure all fans stay safe and stay at home,” he added.

“We've got the medical staff out there and they need help from all of us. They are always out on the frontline, doing their best for us. Just stay patient and we'll be back out on the pitch soon.”
