Angel Di Maria takes swipe at Kylian Mbappe following Thomas Tuchel row

Former Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has hit out at teammate Kylian Mbappe for his reaction to getting substituted during PSG's 5-0 win over Montpellier.

Mbappe scored PSG's fourth in the 57th minute but was replaced by Mauro Icardi ten minutes later.

He was livid with the decision by manager Thomas Tuchel to take him off, getting into a heated discussion while leaving the pitch, and he shrugged his boss off when he tried to explain the substitution.

Di Maria said that although he could understand Mbappe's frustration, he felt the 21-year-old needs to consider his fellow teammates.

Speaking to Canal Plus Di Maria said: "It is very difficult, nobody wanted to go off, everyone wants to play, that's normal.

"Kylian wants to score, but the manager decided that he was to come off, there are boys on the bench who want to come on and have the ability, he needs to get that."

PSG's victory saw them extend their lead at the top of the table to 12 points, and they look set to win their seventh Ligue 1 title in a row.

Di Maria also praised striker Edinson Cavani for his role in the win over Montpellier. The Uruguayan forward had looked set for a move to Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window before the move eventually fell through, and Di Maria praised his professionalism.

"Cavani is 100 per cent with us," he continued. "Since the beginning of the season a lot of things have happened, what's important is that he came on and was able to play, that is the key today."

PSG next host Lyon but may already have one eye on their Champions League last-16 tie against Dortmund later this month, with the French side having been knocked out of the competition at that stage for the last three years in a row.
