Angel Di Maria details Lionel Messi's reaction to PSG boos - "It's hard to believe"

Angel Di Maria has claimed the boos aimed at Lionel Messi are "hard to believe" after the Paris Saint-Germain fans appeared to target the Argentine in recent weeks.

Messi has struggled for form during his first season in the French capital, after joining the club on a free transfer from Barcelona last summer. This is despite chipping in with nine goals and 13 assists in 32 games this term.

However, the 34-year-old managed to score 38 goals in all competitions for Barca last campaign - over four times more than he could finish with at PSG. It is clear Messi hasn't reached the same level at his new club but Di Maria doesn't understand why he is being booed by some supporters.

In an interview with Todo Pasa on Argentinian radio station Urbana Play FM, he said: "The best player in the world whistled... it's hard to believe. But here at the club, people, the ultras, are demanding, they are very passionate and they see the best players coming in and we are eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League, it's normal that they are disappointed. It happens everywhere.

"Here, it happens with the best in the world. Leo does not pay attention, it's a detail. It's football. We know it's like that, it has to be like that. We have to be strong. It's football, these kinds of things happen."

Pochettino told ESPN Argentina last month: "The whistles against Messi? It's unbelievable. These are hard things to accept. A difficult situation to imagine and which cannot be understood in my opinion. All the more so with the greatness of Messi, what he gives and will continue to give to football."

PSG are next in action when they travel to Montpellier. They have already won the Ligue 1 title and currently sit 12 points above second-place Marseille with two matches to go.

This is all before the final game of the season against Metz, where Messi will lift his first French top-flight title. The former Barca ace last found the net during the 1-1 draw with Lens last month.

Meanwhile, Di Maria's seven-year stay at PSG is set to come to an end when his contract expires in June, with Juventus reportedly set to offer him a deal in Turin. Di Maria has made almost 300 appearances for PSG since his move from Manchester United in 2015.
