Ange will make Tottenham MORE shambolic but Celtic must headhunt Marco Rose to prove ambition – Hotline

Ange Postecoglou insists he’s focused on nothing other than the Scottish Cup Final as Spurs prepare to make their move for the Celtic boss.

The same can’t be said of Hoops on the Hotline though with half the calls looking beyond the Hampden showpiece to the future of the man who stands on the verge of leading the club to an historic eighth treble. Postecoglou is Tottenham’s number one target and the Premier League giants could swoop next week.

And Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “Let’s get this straight from the start, nothing is forever. Jock Stein, Martin O’Neill and Brendan Rodgers all left. If Spurs come in for Ange and he wants to go we thank him and you shake his hand and wish him the best of luck. Then we go out and make sure we get it right with his replacement. He won Celtic two leagues when he shouldn’t have. He has brought in a raft of talented players. Celtic are in a much better position now than two years ago.”

Gerard Kelly emailed: “If Ange goes to Spurs then it is what it is. He will leave a legend. But if he does go we need to look at Marco Rose from RB Leipzig if we want to progress in Europe.”

Alan Flett emailed: “Spurs are only interested in Postecoglou because no one else wants to go there. That club are a shambles and Daniel Levy is a desperate man. If he appoints Postecoglou, things will get a whole lot worse for him.”

Meanwhile, tongue-in-cheek Gary Stevenson, Newtonhill, said: “Who would have guessed it? Sad news that a star from the Scottish game departs for London. He has left us with some great memories however. Good luck to Kevin Nisbet, you will be sadly missed.”

Onto the Scottish Cup Final then and after Inverness were written off and slammed earlier in the week by callers for their own criticism of the 5.30pm kick-off there was plenty of support for Billy Dodds’ underdogs on the eve of the showpiece.

Caley Thistle fan Shaun Mahon, Caithness, said: “I can't believe that yesterday's Hotline was so anti-ICT. Do these callers not realise our history of cup shocks? I am quietly confident of producing another monumental shock on Saturday.”

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “Why is nearly everyone getting on Inverness’ backs? They have every right to be at the final also. I’m a Celtic fan and the hate towards them is inexcusable. Don't forget what happened the last time we were favourites .. we ended up with a headline which still comes back to haunt us.”

And Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, added: “There seems no point in Inverness turning up as everybody expects them to be cannon fodder. But remember that 71' League Cup Final? Celtic were white hot favourites they just had to turn up but a young Partick Thistle side just up from the old second division ignored all that rubbish and won 4-1. Don't write the Highlanders’ obituary just yet.”

Jim McClean, Rothesay, said: “Beale was bumping his gums a few weeks ago about the millions he was going to spend, two high earners have left the club and what happens? He signs a second rate player on a blooming free transfer. I would say he is taking the Mickey out of the supporters again.”

Finally, after Partick Thistle blasted into a 2-0 first leg play-off final lead over Ross County, Andrew Lamb, Fraserburgh, said: “County chairman Roy McGregor should be embarrassed by the state of his side. Beaten by lower league opposition and hopefully soon to be relegated. Can I suggest start spending real money Mr McGregor?”
