Ange Postecoglou will leave Celtic board with egg on their faces as he won't tolerate transfer dithering - Hotline

The heatwave could have a part to play in a Hotline of Old Firm tit-for-tat ahead of the new season.

It was a hotchpotch of barbed comments with new Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou featuring heavily with fans demanding new recruits be added as soon as possible.

Denis Bruce, Bishopbriggs, said: "The Celtic board must be wary of dragging their heels in bringing in the players needed by the new manager.

"This straight talking Australian, who has a vision of the exciting football he wants to bring back to Parkhead, will not tolerate being fobbed off by those above him. He has his reputation to consider and he will not allow it to be jeopardised.

"If the board doesn't want to be left with egg on their faces then they had better make moves on the transfer front or this man will walk away, leaving the club in a worse state and with little likelihood of recovery."

James Walker, Stepps, said: "Season after season we see Celtic starting a Champions League qualifying campaign in a state of disarray. I like what Postecoglou has had to say so far, he has a brutally honest way of talking and he knows the team is well short in many departments. It's a joke that we are now in this state as we need two new defenders and a couple of strikers. Celtic's habit of leaving things too late is an insult to the fans."

David Wilkie, Millport, said: "I was saddened to hear Kyogo Furuhashi can't stop crying after leaving Vissel Kobe for Celtic.

"He had better get used to that because he's about to face Glasgow Rangers at least four times this season."

William Weir, Aberdeen, said: "I can't believe Brentford are willing to pay over £13.5m for Kris Ajer. The big Norwegian has the pace and agility of a Troll who's had one too many Hobbits for his pre-match lunch."

William Conners, Culross, said: "I see the Celtic juggernaut hasn't stopped from last season as once again the manager and staff are already being blamed for Rangers winning what will become 56."

Kevin Kean, Inchinnan, said: "Postecoglou has had so little time to assess and work with this squad, the chances of Celtic of overcoming Galatasaray or PSV if they make progress in Europe is slim. The whole season is already a write-off and I think we should just build and consolidate and see what happens."

Steven Richardson, emailed: "Hotline regular Gordon Ashley keeps boasting about Celtic's millions but they are a stepping stone club used by players to move on to better teams. As long as they shop at the cheap they will never be any good in Europe and by comparison Rangers won the title by using loan players and spanked Celtic on the way."

Speak of the devil.

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: "If Rangers fans think they can live off winning one training match trophy out of 14 they are wrong.

"I remember when we stopped the 10 and it was forgotten about by the time the next trophy was lifted but the fact they failed to stop Celtic making it a double 9 In A Row and a quadruple treble will live on forever."

John Paul Dow, Gibshill, said: "Is there something Celtic fans aren't being told about the John Kennedy situation? Is he assistant manager or a coach now at Celtic forever with no accountability on failure? We lost more goals at set-piece situations than any other club in Europe last season but start again this season with only a new manager but the same backroom staff.

"Hopefully Ange gets his own staff in soon."

Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus: "I’m no fan of Leigh Griffiths but he is a very dangerous player who knows how to score, and should be in the Celtic team. As a Rangers fan I want both Rangers and Celtic to reach the Champion League group stages for Scottish pride."

And finally.

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: "Congratulations to Cillian Sheridan after he signed for Dundee. The Dens Park side must have been the only team he’s not played for before. He’s had more clubs than Peter Stringfellow."
