Ange Postecoglou warned of Celtic backstabbers 'dying to knife him' as new boss gets Parkhead advice

New Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has been warned the knives are out for him as he takes over at Parkhead.

The Greek-Australian manager has been appointed as Neil Lennon 's replacement on a 12 month rolling contract but has been greeted with scepticism in some quarters.

Postecoglou has never worked in Europe aside from a brief spell in the Greek lower leagues, and is tasked with taking the Premiership title back from Rangers.

And Australian legend Paul Wade believes there will be no shortage of critics waiting to pounce if his Celtic reign gets off to a poor start.

The Parkhead side face FC Midtjylland in a Champions League qualifier next month before getting their league campaign under way away to Hearts.

Wade, who won 84 caps for his country, told a homeland podcast: "I refer to former Australia manager Eddie Thomson. He said, 'You surround yourself with people, people you trust, so that there's nobody behind you with a knife'.

"There are so many people in Scotland with knives just dying to stab him.

"I was listening to someone from Radio Five Live in Britain...he's laughing and saying 'Who is this Ange Post-e-cog-lou?'

"What an absolute disgrace. It's because of people like him that's going to make the job very difficult for Ange.

"If he can just remain confident that the players can actually deliver than he will do very well.

"But he's got to look out for that. If Ange is saying things at press conferences he's got to be strong enough to say you know what, I'm a coach and I'm just trying to win football matches.

"If he can keep thinking that, he'll be able to deal with the pressure."
