Ange Postecoglou to Celtic timeline 'revealed' as boss set to hand former Rangers star a key role

Ange Postecoglou is set to head for Celtic immediately following Yokoham F. Marinos' J-League Cup showdown on Wednesday night, according to a report.

The 55-year-old former Australia manager is the frontrunner to replace Neil Lennon and getting to Glasgow as soon as possible will be key as he faces 10 days' in self-isolation upon his arrival.

John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan are set to lead pre-season training before Postecoglou officially checks in to Lennoxtown.

But a report in Australia claims he will depart Japan this week and bring former Rangers star Kevin Muscat as his assistant.

Journalist Andy Maher told SEN: “I have it on very good authority that Ange Postecoglou will coach his team on Wednesday night in the Emperor’s Cup against Honda and that will be last time that he coaches in Japan.

“I am told reliably that he will be on a plane that night via Athens heading to Glasgow and will be announced as the Celtic coach thereafter upon arrival.

“That is what I’m being reliably informed. Further to that, there is a very good chance, so I’m informed, that Kevin Muscat might be his second-in-command. We may wake up to that news on Thursday morning.”

Postecoglou faces a daunting rebuild with Celtic in a state of flux following a bitterly disappointing season.

The club's push for 10 In A Row turned to disaster and Neil Lennon resigned with the campaign in ruins.

The deposed Premiership champions have now been without a manager for over 100 days after talks with top target Eddie Howe collapsed.
