Ange Postecoglou to Celtic latest as Asian Football Confederation insider weighs in on coaching licence issues

Asian Football Confederation technical director Andy Roxburgh admits Ange Postecoglou faces a "frustrating" process before taking the Celtic job.

The former Australia manager remains the red-hot favourite to become Neil Lennon 's permanent replacement with the Parkhead club closing in on a deal for the 55-year-old.

However, due to a career spent coaching outside of Europe, Postecoglou doesn’t hold the required UEFA Pro Licence required for him to take the job.

Celtic are looking for an exemption for Postecoglou given his vast 25 years experience in the game where he has managed Australia at the World Cup.

Postecoglou earned his badges under the Asian Football Confederation, and Roxburgh admits his Federation have very little say after it's handed over to the European body.

However, he reckons the Greek-born Australian will be a hit at Celtic Park.

Roxburgh told The Daily Mail : "I know Ange very well. We think he is a top, top guy.

"He has been very successful both at club and international level.

"Ange was at my last two elite coaches forum events and spoke very well. I would describe him as strong, clever and progressive. Those are the words I’d use.

“It’s just the fact this is a process that UEFA go through and we can’t influence it in any way, shape or form.

“FIFA has now agreed there is a very clear process of how to check everything. So UEFA go through the process.

"It’s frustrating if you are lined up to do a job and have to face it, but it’s not about the individual here. It’s about the various cases they get annually and the process.”
