Ange Postecoglou start delay explained as Tottenham reveal key detail in statement

Ange Postecoglou has been confirmed as Tottenham Hotspur's new head coach. The 57-year-old leaves Celtic after two years in Scotland and replaces Antonio Conte.

Spurs confirmed the appointment of the Australian on Tuesday morning, tweeting: "We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as our new head coach on a four-year contract."

The appointment puts an end to Daniel Levy's search for a new manager since Conte's exit in March. Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason had taken up interim roles in the latter stages of the season, failing to secure a place in European football.

The Australian will take over at Hotspur Way ahead of the 2023/24 season after winning five trophies from a possible six in his two years in Glasgow. However, he won't begin officially working in north London until July 1.

Postecoglou's contract at Celtic Park does not expire until June 30, meaning he is, technically, still an employee of the Scottish champions. There will also be some time for the new head coach to recharge his batteries after a long season in Scotland.

Celtic played in 53 games this campaign, winning the SPL title, Scottish Cup and League Cup. There were 302 days between the Hoops' first and last game of the season - which ended on Saturday against Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The Premier League will kick-off on Saturday 12 August, meaning the new Spurs boss will have six weeks to start work in north London.
