Ange Postecoglou sets Celtic return date for Callum McGregor and co as he praises 'spirit' in Sheffield Wednesday win

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou saw his reign get off to a winning start against Sheffield Wednesday, and revealed he expects to give the likes of Callum McGregor a run-out on Saturday.

The Hoops fell behind in Wales to a goal from former Rangers man Josh Windass, but fought back to win 3-1 thanks to goals from Albian Ajeti, Odsonne Edouard and young Owen Moffat.

It was an inexperienced team that took to the field for the first of three 30 minute periods, but the Aussie boss expects players returning from Euro 2020 to be involved at the weekend.

Postecoglou told Celtic TV: "We'll see how everyone is, obviously the lads who played today were the ones who have been with us from the start.

"We've just got to make sure we don't throw guys in too early but looking at the international boys and some of the others, they've come back in good condition.

"So I think they'll play a part on the weekend."

Postecoglou has a very specific style of play he wants to implement at Parkhead, and while he admits that wasn't on display throughout the 90 minutes he praised the spirit of his players.

The 55-year-old said: "To be fair they worked hard, we didn't have a great start to the game.

"We took a while to get into it, we had a solid session yesterday and the boys probably felt it a little bit.

"But we grew into the game and to their credit I thought the better part of the first half and then definitely the second half we played some decent stuff and scored a couple of good goals and finished strongly.

"We've been working hard in training and part of it is that we want to make sure we continue to play at a certain tempo for the whole game, we don't drop off.

"That's why we're working hard and I thought second half we maintained that and got our rewards in the end with Albi and Moff scoring a good goal.

"Aside from that it was good to see the young boys, because it would have been very easy for them after the start we had to go into their shells and not be as positive but they reacted really well and that's a good sign.

"There's nothing wrong with winning, and particularly in the manner we did because we didn't start well, we didn't play well and we go a goal down.

"But it kind of shows you that there's a bit of spirit within the boys that they weren't prepared to accept that, which is a positive sign."
