Ange Postecoglou scraps Celtic 'numbers over positions' team sheet as he hides nothing from Midtjylland

Celtic have gone back to basics for their showdown with Midtjylland with their team line showing their starting XI by order of position.

It was a case of numbers first under Neil Lennon and Gerry McCulloch revealed it was the Irishman's choice over how the side were presented online.

But Ange Postecoglou has reverted to the traditional way as his starting XI for Midtjylland shows his players by position rather than squad number.

The Celtic media presenter revealed the numerical style was used to try and gain the advantage over the opposition by keeping them guessing over how the Parkhead side would line up.

And now Postecoglou has given his blessing to a switch for their Champions League qualifier.

McCulloch said earlier in pre-season on Celtic TV : “Whenever we put out a team line-up, there’s always a reaction to whether we’ve done it in numerical order or formation order.

The traditional style has returned (Celtic FC)

“Over the last couple of seasons, we’ve changed, and we’ve started to do it in numerical order. It’s no my decision! This is obviously coming from the footballing department.

“The manager previously has been keen to give it in numerical order. It just means that if they do change the formation at some point, it doesn’t come across, and the opposition manager can see that we’ve changed formation.

“Don’t blame us, it’s not our decision. But we will speak to this manager, because I think it’s worth speaking to him and saying “Listen, how do you want to do this?”

“I know it’s important to you guys, and if it’s important to you, it’s important to us.”
