Ange Postecoglou says he has not completed the job at Tottenham despite ending the club’s 17-year wait for a major trophy.
Spurs beat Manchester United 1-0 in Bilbao on Wednesday night, to be crowned this season’s Europa League winners in the process thanks to Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal.
However, whilst the Tottenham players get ready for a trophy parade in the streets of north London later this week, speculation over Postecoglou’s future rumbles on.
It was reported earlier in the week that regardless of the result against the Red Devils, Postecoglou is expected to depart despite still having two years remaining on his contract.
The reason for Postecoglou’s uncertain future is due to overseeing a difficult Premier League campaign, with Spurs in 17th in the table after suffering 21 defeats from 37 matches.
Though, Postecoglou is keen to stay on. Insisting that leading the club to a first piece of silverware since 2008 and a first European trophy in 41 years is just the beginning.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the trophy lift he said: “What ever happens, happens. We're still building this team, it's still a young team and we need to add some experience to it. We're in the Champions League.
“My thought process and what I've been doing is trying to build a team that can be successful for four, five years or six years.
“I am the manager of the football club, that decision is not in my hands. It doesn't affect me though.
“If it was going to affect me, you would have seen it in the build up to here, all I cared about is this thing [Europa League winner's medal] and having it around my neck because if I did that meant this football club has won a trophy.
“I don't feel like I've completed the job here, we're still building.
“But the moment I accepted the role I had one thing in my head and that was to win something more than anything else. We've done that now so I want to build on it."
