Ange Postecoglou's Celtic start date revealed with new boss due at Lennoxtown this week

Ange Postecoglou is set to take Celtic training for the first time this week.

The Aussie was confirmed as the club’s new boss on a rolling 12-month contract earlier this month.

He had to go through a period of isolation after arriving from Japan, but the Scottish Sun now reports he could meet his new charges and put them through their paces for the first time at Lennoxtown this Thursday.

Postecoglou met up with chief exec Dominic McKay in London last week and attended Scotland’s 0-0 draw with England at Wembley on Friday.

He watched on as Callum McGregor helped the Scots to a vital point that kept their Euro 2020 dream alive.

But the real work will start this week with a crunch Champions League qualifying tie with FC Midtjylland the former Yokohama Marinos boss’ first big test.

The Danish outfit visit Celtic Park on Tuesday 20 June before the second leg takes place eight days later.

Celtic will require a major rebuild this summer if they are to wrestle the Scottish Premiership title back from Rangers after last season’s dismal attempt at securing an historic ten-in-a-row.

Some players are already back as they seek to build their fitness ahead of the new season.

Swiss striker Albian Ajeti was at the training ground today alongside Christopher Jullien, Nir Bitton and youngster Brody Patterson.

John Kennedy has also been on site alongside coach Gavin Strachan, who have been taking training for those players not on international duty until Postecolgou is in the building.

Kennedy and Strachan will stay on to assist for a while but the former interim manager is thought to be considering hios longer term future at the club.

Celtic will take part in friendlies with Charlton Athletic, Bristol City and Preston North End before their Champions League campaign kicks off.

Postecoglou faces a tough Scottish Premiership baptism of fire when he takes his side to Tynecastle to face Hearts on the opening weekend.
