Ange Postecoglou's Celtic quarantine puts John Kennedy in the frame to lead pre season training

John Kennedy is reportedly set to lead Celtic's first day of pre-season training with Ange Postecoglou being forced to quarantine.

The Yokohama F. Marinos boss is expected to become the club's new manager but will be required to adhere to 10 days' self-isolation upon his arrival in Scotland.

Celtic have agreed compensation with the J-League outfit and it's said the 55-year-old has agreed personal terms.

But the Daily Record report Postecoglou won't be in place in time for players' return to Lennoxtown on June 17.

And although he will be given scope to build his own backroom team, Kennedy and Gavin Strachan are set to welcome stars back in 10 days' time.

A number of players will be on international duty at Euro 2020 but Postecoglou is expected to meet the rest before heading to a pre-season training camp in Wales in July.

Preparations will then build towards Champions League qualifying later in the month and the beginning of a new Premiership campaign.

The club have also applied to UEFA for an exemption as Postecoglou does not hold the requisite Pro Licence coaching badges, having only briefly worked in Europe in Greece's third tier.

The former Australia manager remained tight-lipped when asked if he could comment on the Celtic job this weekend, replying: “Nah, not really.

“I was asked the question last week, too. My focus is always on the work I have to do today.

“We had a very important game and we’ve got another game coming up on Wednesday so that’s where my focus is.”
