Ange Postecoglou's Celtic press conference in full as he lays out his non negotiable transfer 'control'

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou reveals he demanded full control of transfers as he explains his January moves.

The former Yokohama F Marinos boss has brought in four players from the J League in the form of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate.

He was also close to a deal for fellow Australian Riley McGree, a clear indication that he's the man calling the shots on the market.

As has been the case on the continent for decades, many British clubs now operate with a sporting director model where a recruitment department draws up shortlists and makes signings.

That's how Rangers operate with Ross Wilson across the city, while figures like Monchi, Luis Campos and Giuseppe Marotta have become household names.

However, Celtic have chosen to go down a different road and the manager was asked about the importance of being the one calling the shots.

Postecoglou said: "It was kind of essential, and I think to be fair to the club they understood that when they appointed me.

"With my history and the way I want my teams to play it's really important that we bring in players who are going to suit the system, it's not just about signing talented players, or players we may think have potential. It's whether we think they can fit into the way I want the team to play.

"Obviously no-one knows that better than me, so having that control and being able to make sure of the characteristics we're looking for - both from the point of view of the player and also the person - has been vital.

"I've done that my whole career and for the most part I've had success in the players I bring in, because I know what I'm looking for."
