Ange Postecoglou's Celtic exit strategy for Giakoumakis analysed as coach spots moves that'd do his head in

Simon Donnelly has praised Ange Postecoglou's handling of Giorgos Giakoumakis' departure from Celtic while he hinted at his frustration at players on social media.

The Celtic manager revealed earlier today that Instagram will know before he does if the Greek striker has signed for either Atlanta United or Urawa Red Diamonds. Giakoumakis remained at Celtic at the end of the January transfer window but different deadlines in Japan and the United States mean he can still wrap up a move to his suitors. The MLS side are now favourites to sign the forward but the J League side could come in with an 11th hour bid.

He told reporters: "It will get concluded fairly soon. To be honest, it's not on my radar any more. I will probably hear it about the same time as you guys. Maybe, if you are on Instagram, you will hear about it earlier than me. It's not on my radar, I don't expect him back in the group, but it hasn't been finalised yet."

Former Celtic player and Dundee United coach Donnelly said it would have done his head in if players were releasing information on social media before the club.

He told Radio Clyde: "When I heard Ange speaking, I actually went and followed Giakoumakis as I wasn't actually sure what happened! His most recent post wasn't anything.

"Listen, social media is social media. But see with my coach head on, that would have done my head in as well if players were putting wee things out. As soon I heard that today I was straight on my Instagram to see what the drama was but Ange doesn't hold back. But the guy is moving on now."
