Ange Postecoglou reveals heartwarming Celtic motivation as he gushes over 'outstanding' performance

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou reckons his side were 'outstanding' for an hour and believes he would have got the seal of approval from his dad.

The Hoops gaffer was thrilled with how his team played and he admitted that his main motivation in his career was to create teams his dad was delighted to watch.

His father sadly passed away but it's still Postecoglou's motivation and Celtic were on top form against Hearts as they blew the Edinburgh side away.

The scoreline of 3-2 might suggest a close game but it flattered Hearts and you could even say it would have if Celtic had gone on to win by five or six.

But he does believe that it was the best his side played after joining the club with the Celtic Park faithful heading home with smiles on their faces.

Postecoglou told Premier Sports: "The scoreline is the scoreline. Our football for the first 60 minutes was outstanding.

"It was as good as we’ve played, especially in the first half. We didn’t get the rewards for that, some of it was self-inflicted with good chances we didn’t take and there were some good saves.

"Our football was outstanding which was good to see because we’ve got a heavy schedule and we’re relying on the same core group of players but they all put in a good shift.

"That’s my whole motivation. My old man is up there somewhere and he was the one that if I could get him excited about the teams I was producing then that was enough for me and I think he would have been pretty pleased with what he saw in the first half today."

Celtic have a big week ahead of them with a Europa League playoff clash with AZ Alkmaar later in the week and Postecoglou insists the only aim is to keep improving.

He added: "Our goal and task is to keep improving our football. The Midtjylland games were disappointing in terms of us getting eliminated from the Champions League but our performances weren’t too bad.

"We just weren’t sustaining our level of performances and missing out in the big moments but since then all we’ve tried to do is keep improving our football and focus on the stuff we can control and that’s another opportunity in the next game to keep improving as a team."
