Ange Postecoglou responds to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's Tottenham return

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has hailed midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for his performance against Fulham on Monday night.

The Danish international was afforded his first Premier League stars of the season as Spurs kept their place at the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over their London rivals.

Hojbjerg has admitted a lack of regular game time has been something he’s had to get used to after previously proving something of a stalwart under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte.

Fulham were interested in signing the 28-year-old during the closing stages of the transfer window but Hojbjerg rejected a move despite frequently being linked away all summer.

Yves Bissouma’s suspension meant Postecoglou had to turn to the former Southampton midfielder and the Australian was impressed by Hojbjerg’s contribution.

“I thought Pierre was good. He's been good in every game he's played for us,” he said.

“I've put him on in some difficult situations and he's handled them really well. He's very experienced and I thought he handled it well tonight.

“I thought in the first half in particular we stayed calm on the ball and had some good tempo. Like I said I thought our pressing was outstanding all game and I thought he was a big part of that.

“He made interceptions for both goals and yeah it was important to have him in there. His experience coming in because Biss has been very important for us and in such a crucial role but I thought he was excellent.”
