Ange Postecoglou responds to Celtic and Rangers away fan ban as he revisits 'better spectacle' verdict

Ange Postecoglou has responded to the decision taken to ban away fans from the remaining Premiership fixtures between Celtic and Rangers.

The champions host their city rivals on April 8 before going across Glasgow to Ibrox in the final encounter between the two after the league split. There’s also the small matter of a Scottish Cup semi-final clash between the two at the end of next month.

While Hampden will be packed and the ticket allocation split 50-50, there will only be home fans at the games either side of that one. Reduced away allocations have been the norm recently, but Record Sport told on Friday how no away supporters will be at the respective stadiums due to “safety” concerns. We then revealed how the two clubs are involved in a stand-off, with Celtic keen to see a return to normal numbers, but Rangers are standing firm in their assertion that the Broomloan stand won't be handed over.

Now Postecoglou has spoken for the first time on the situation. He’s previously admitted that having full away support adds to the spectacle. But this call was above his pay grade and the Aussie is focusing on enjoying the trip to the national stadium that will see both sets of fans able to attend.

“I’m not totally across all the details,” he told Sky Sports. “The club’s handling that.”

“I’ve said in the past that I think it makes for a better spectacle. This decision has been made with, I guess, all the information at hand. The beauty of it is that we’ve got a game at Hampden in between that’ll be 50–50. Let’s look forward to that.”
