Ange Postecoglou promises Celtic shake up as underperforming stars told 'reward' is coming for fringe men

Ange Postecoglou has warned his Celtic players that anyone who underperformis risks being booted out of the starting line-up against St Johnstone.

Since the Scottish Premiership restart the Hoops have made it two wins from two against Aberdeen and Livingston, but face a relentless festive fixture card with a Christmas Eve showdown with the Perth Saints rapidly approaching. A tough trip to Easter Road to face Hibs will then follow before the turn of the year, with Rangers awaiting in the first fixture of 2023.

Despite the results, Postecoglou has been left far from happy with the showings from his side since the World Cup break and has told his first-team regulars they could be benched against Callum Davidson's men. The Australian admitted changes were on the cards due to their hectic schedule but will "reward" some of the fringe players for their work at Lennoxtown against the Perth Saints.

Speaking ahead of the St Johnstone game, Postecoglou was asked if he would be making more changes due to the packed fixture list. He responded: 'Yeah, I think that's fair, based on how busy (it is) but also on performance.

"If guys aren't performing to the levels we know they can there are some pretty good players that are not getting some game time. They are training hard and that's why we have got a squad.

"You have to reward that at some point. That coupled with the fact we do have a busy schedule we will make some changes for the St Johnstone game because it will be a tough game for us.

"Callum is an excellent coach and he has them well organised and well drilled. We know every time we play them it's a challenge, and it will be on Saturday."
