Ange Postecoglou Nottingham Forest update as appointment timeline laid bare

Ange Postecoglou could take over at Nottingham Forest within the next 72 hours.

Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked by the Premier League club overnight as his strained relations with the hierarchy finally told.

Former Celtic boss Postecoglou has been strongly linked in recent weeks while Santo's future looked uncertain and he was instantly placed as favourite after the Portuguese moved on.

Brendan Rodgers has also been linked but Celtic fans can breathe a sigh of relief as it looks like his Parkhead predecessor will land the job.

The Telegraph reported that the Aussie could be appointed this week and a further update from them suggests this could happen within the next 72 hours.

Postecoglou is said to be the favoured choice of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis despite Rodgers and Jose Mourinho both also being mooted.

He believes the 60-year-old can deliver the expansive, attacking style of football that he wants to see on show at his club.

Forest face Arsenal in a lunchtime kick-off this Saturday and an apppointment looks likely to be made before that.

Santo had gone public with concerns around his relationship with Marinakis and there also seemed to be a breakdown with global head of football Edu. Quizzed about that, Edu admitted there was "no smoke without fire."

Forest released a statement early this morning which read: "Nottingham Forest Football club confirms that, following recent circumstances, Nuno Espírito Santo has today been relieved of his duties as head coach.

"The club thanks Nuno for his contribution during a very successful era at The City Ground, in particular his role in the 2024/25 season, which will forever be remembered fondly in the history of the club.

"As someone who played a pivotal role in our success last season, he will always hold a special place in our journey."

Postecoglou won the Europa League just four months ago but was still sacked by Tottenham Hotspur due to their disappointing league position, finishing just outside the relegation spots.
