Ange Postecoglou names the Celtic star who 'doesn't get the headlines' after 'outstanding' display

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says everyone at the Hoops appreciated the work of Daizen Maeda after a big contribution against Motherwell.

The Australian opted to rest the Japanese international in recent games following a lung-bursting display against Real Madrid but he came off the bench in Lanarkshire to net the winner in a 2-1 win against the Steelmen. Countryman Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate often take headlines but Maeda's manager knows that his commitment to the cause is just as vital.

That can be said for all of Postecoglou's rotation men with the manager again making multiple changes to his Celtic XI after a weekend win over Dundee United. He explained: “He (Maeda) works so hard for the team. He’s surrounded by other attackers who are different to him. He doesn’t get the headlines. But the contribution he makes is immense. I left him out for the last couple of games to freshen him up. He was outstanding again.

“The subs coming on were really important for us. He finished it off. At the weekend it was Kyogo. The lads have a good attitude about rotating the team, which is not easy, because they all want to play all the time.

"My role is to assess performance and we could play better, but a big part of this team is their character when we’re not at our best.

"Winning away from home in the Premiership is never easy. That we found a way again is credit to the lads."
