Ange Postecoglou insists Celtic have learned NOTHING from Rangers Euro run as he points to Scotland's biggest prize

Ange Postecoglou insists they didn’t need rivals Rangers’ run to the Europa League semi-final to prove what Scottish clubs can do in Europe.

And the Parkhead boss pointed to Celtic’s own historic 1967 European Cup success as a mark of what can be achieved.

Jock Stein’s Hoops became the first British side to win club football’s ultimate prize when they beat Inter Milan in 1967.

Rangers won the European Cup Winners’ Cup five years later with Aberdeen the last Scottish club to win major silverware on the continent when they lifted the same trophy by beating Real Madrid in 1983.

Dundee United, Celtic and Rangers have all reached the UEFA Cup final since then and the Ibrox side could get back there if they overturn a 1-0 deficit in the second leg of their last four clash against RB Leipzig.

The Hoops haven’t progressed in a single knockout tie in Europe since 2004 but despite Rangers run this season, Postecoglou dismissed suggestions that their rivals had blazed a trail for Scottish football.

When asked whether Rangers' run demonstrated how Scottish clubs can make their mark and whether it gave him a taste for next season, Postecoglou said: "Scottish clubs, including this one, have made their mark in Europe before, I don't think we have learned anything new this year.

"Rangers have done very well and Giovanni has done a great job in getting them to the semi-finals. I guess from their perspective they are still in the tie and have an opportunity to get to a final, which is great.

"But if you want evidence of how well Scottish clubs can do in Europe, there's a trophy I can show you just down the road here, mate."
