Ange Postecoglou expects ‘significant change’ to take place at Celtic over the coming weeks as he looks to put his own stamp on the club.
The Australian got off to a winning start as a young Hoops team came from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon.
Goals from Albian Ajeti, Owen Moffat and Odsonne Edouard gave Postecoglou the victory after ex-Rangers man Josh Windass had out the Owls ahead.
The team that starts the Scottish Premiership season however, and even the upcoming Champions League qualifiers, will look nothing like the one that started in Newport.
And the boss wants players who will allow him to implement his own playing style.
He told Sky Sports : “I think there’ll be significant change. There’s been a pretty big turnover in players from last year. A lot have left and we need to bring in some.
“Whenever that happens, that’s significant change and also we’ll probably play a little bit differently to what they have in the past.
“Whether it’s a rebuild or just a shift in direction, it will be significant change for sure.”
A number of players have been linked with moves away from Celtic Park as well. Kris Ajer, Ryan Christie and Odsonne Edouard are all in the last years of their contracts and are attracting interest from England and abroad.
And Postecoglou admitted he has little influence over whether they stay or go.
He added: “I’m not really sure. I’m not in control of that. All I can do with the ones that are here right now and training with us is treat them as part of the family. If some leave, then they do and hopefully at the same time we get some new ones in.
“Kris is a first class professional and fantastic player. I’d like to keep them all but again, those things are out of my control.”
Reports today linked Celtic with a move for Rubin Kazan defender Carl Starfelt as a potential replacement for Ajer, but Postecoglou wouldn’t confirm or deny his interest.
He said: “I’m not talking to anyone. We’ve got multiple targets and there’s a lot of names being thrown around. From my perspective, it’s about making sure that we do bring in some players that can play the football that I want over the next period.
“The club’s working awfully hard to try and make that happen. All we can do is work on a daily basis and make sure we’re as prepared as we possibly can be.”
