Ange Postecoglou explains surprise Celtic sub decision as boss happy to slip under the radar

Ange Postecoglou insists he's happy for his in-form Celtic to continue slipping under the radar.

They racked up a sixth consecutive Premiership victory on Sunday with a slender win over Motherwell at Celtic Park.

Victory cut the gap on leaders Rangers back to four points after the Ibrox side saw off Hearts earlier on Sunday.

Tom Rogic's goal was enough to beat the Steelmen but Postecoglou lost another key man as James Forrest limped off in the first half.

The manager is content in feeling people are not "noticing" his team's impressive run in the face of several injury issues.

He told BBC Sportsound: "We're in a pretty decent run of form and we've been playing well for quite a while.

"Long may it continue that people aren't noticing, from my point of view.

It’s further strength to us that they’re not making excuses, they’re just tackling every challenge and overcoming them."

Mikey Johnston being subbed on for Forrest only to be withdrawn himself in the second period may have raised some eyebrows, but Postecoglou revealed the winger was asked to go above and beyond having not been fit enough to start the match.

The Celtic boss said: "Mikey wasn’t 100 per cent, that’s why we didn’t start him. The plan today was to give him 30 minutes but James went down. He put in a big shift for us, and we didn’t want to risk him unnecessarily towards the end."

Forrest joined the likes of Kyogo, Jota, Albian Ajeti and Giorgos Giakoumakis on the injury list after a problem he was carrying pre-match flared up in the opening stages.

Postecoglou confessed he doesn't yet know the extent of the issue.

He added: "I’m not really sure, he felt something but I haven’t had a chance to speak to him. It’s disappointing. He wasn’t 100 per cent, but we felt he was okay, he felt he was all right for the game today but it didn’t work out.

"We’re not having a great run but it’s just another challenge for us. I’ve had challenges from the moment I walked in the door. We’re in a pretty good space. There’s no point crying about it. We just keep going and playing our football."
