Ange Postecoglou explains how Celtic fans influence transfer work as rival bosses question spending

Ange Postecoglou says a big part of his Celtic recruitment is based on wanting to give fans value for their money.

The Hoops boss is gearing up for another January transfer window, with reports claiming Vissel Kobe defender Yuki Kobayashi may be one who arrives. Postecoglou insists that he is keen to repay fans for their support of the club and it's why he will always seek to use Celtic cash wisely.

In a pointed message to some other bosses, the Australian said: “There have been a couple of other managers talking about the fact we spend a lot of money in the transfer market. But we have 60,000 people coming to our games every week. They don’t expect their money to be put in my pocket and just sit in the bank somewhere. My responsibility is to ensure their hard-earned gets invested wisely, so they can be proud of their football team. That is a responsibility.

“From the outside sometimes people think, ‘Ah, just spend money’. But there is a massive responsibility there.”

There's also the knowledge that as stars thrive, suitors will come calling for Celtic players, but Postecoglou hasn't got the fear: "I just see that as part of the process.

“If you look at clubs who do well at Champions League level that are our size, what do they do? They develop players, sell them on and then replace them with better versions, hopefully."
