Ange Postecoglou explains his Celtic scarf acceptance as boss gets used to fan adulation

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has paid tribute to the supporters who can’t get enough of the Greek-Aussie coach – but insisted he is not worthy of their adulation.

Postecoglou is already a hero to Hoops fans despite having only been at the club for six months and is yet to win anything. They have taken to his team’s attacking style and his affable personality.

The manager celebrated with the Celtic punters after Sunday’s win over Dundee United at Tannadice – and even wore a scarf thrown to him by a supporter.

But although he is grateful for the love, he isn’t ready to bathe in it just yet.

Postecoglou said: “It’s just about me showing my gratitude for their support.

"I’ve said from day one, I’m not sure I’m sort of worthy of the adulation or the support I’m getting, because I’ve yet to achieve what I want to.

“But I can’t dismiss the fact they are right behind me, not just me, but the whole team.

“The atmosphere they create, even on Sunday when a few unfortunately couldn’t get in to the ground.

“The ones who were there made up for it with their noise.

“They are the most important part of this football club.

“You talk to anyone who was here last year, without the Celtic support and our fans in the stadium, there isn’t the same sort of meaning to this football club."

Postecoglou’s side next face Betis in the Europa League on Thursday.
