Ange Postecoglou delivers Kyogo Celtic injury timeline as striker 'not far off' ahead of Hibs cup final

Ange Postecoglou once again refused to rule Kyogo out of Sunday's Premier Sports Cup Final.

But he said the Celtic talisman is "nearly there" and should be back in full training within the next week.

Kyogo went off with a hamstring problem against Real Betis after he was substituted on for Albian Ajeti in the first half.

The initial prognosis was that the injury was serious but it emerged after the game it was not as bad as first feared.

Speaking over the weekend, Postecoglou was reluctant to give a timeline on his return – only confirming that he would be back to face Rangers in the New Year.

But now he says Kyogo will be back in training within the next week, while reiterating he may well be fit for the clash with Hibs on Sunday.

Speaking at his press conference on Tuesday, the Greek-Australian said: "Who knows, I am not sure. He is not far off, it's a day-to-day thing.

"If he is ready to go then we will play him, if he's not then we will look to the following game.

"I'd expect him to be back at some point in the next week or so, the way he's improving at the moment.

"But with these things you're relying on everything running smoothly and that doesn't always happen.

"Him and the medical team are working hard and we will see what happens."

James Forrest and Mikey Johnston are also in contention for the Cup Final, though the former will certainly miss the trip to Ross County on Wednesday night.

He said: "Nothing has really changed in terms of guys coming back. James, we are still assessing him and he will be out tomorrow night. We'll get some information in the next couple of days on him.

"Mikey Johnston, we are not sure about either because he pulled up a bit sore after the game. As I said he wasn't 100 per cent, but we will see how he goes for tomorrow night."
