Ange Postecoglou claims Celtic captain Callum McGregor's 'driving' influence was key in win against Aberdeen

Ange Postecoglou applauded the driving influence of Callum McGregor as Celtic beat Aberdeen today.

The Hoops were looking to get back to winning ways after the exertions of Thursday night's defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

And they did just that, as Callum McGregor got the winner in the second half after Jota's early strike was cancelled out by a Lewis Ferguson penalty.

Postecoglou and his staff placed a big emphasis on not letting performance levels drop in the Dons after the emotions of their last match.

"I was pleased because it was a bit of a danger game for us because we put so much into it - the lads on Thursday night, physically, emotionally," he told Celtic TV.

"They're disappointed at the end of it but they know they have to get back up and put in a performance against a tough opponent.

"They worked hard, they were well organised but I thought we were good.

"First half we couldn't dominate as much as we would've liked in terms of creating more opportunities but second half I thought we were really on it, scored a goal, could've had another couple and kept them to one chance from a corner.

"It was important, as much about showing what we're about as anything else because after a big European night, there's always the opportunity to have a let down.

"We really put a big emphasis on it and was driven by the lads that worked hard.

"Cal was driving them the whole game and I thought right to the end, they were right on it."

Postecoglou also provided an injury update on ahead of Thursday's match against Hearts.

He added: "Tommy Rogic will definitely be available for Thursday, which is good.

"Carl Starfelt's not too far away, Greg Taylor isn't too far away so we're getting some troops back.

"We're going to need them, heavy schedule, a lot of games."
