Ange Postecoglou and the Rangers example that Kenny Dalglish suspects Celtic must follow

Kenny Dalglish suspects Ange Postecoglou will be "up against it" in Celtic's fightback against Rangers.

The Parkhead boss was officially appointed on Thursday and faces a pivotal seven weeks until the start of the Scottish Premiership campaign on July 31.

Celtic were left trailing in the wake of Steven Gerrard's unbeaten title winners last season, three years after the former Liverpool captain took the job at Ibrox.

Dalglish suggested Postecoglou may need a similar level of backing due to the strength of their rivals.

He told Go Radio: “It’s such a brilliant club and anybody who gets a job there is very fortunate but it’s going to be a difficult job for him as well in this state of play.

“Steven has done unbelievably well at Rangers, Rangers stood by him, believed in him kept plugging away and supported him financially.

“And after three years he’s had an unbelievable season to win the league and have a great run in Europe. The way they went out the two cup competitions will be disappointing but he’s really improved.

“Anybody going into Celtic now, they’re up against it a wee bit because of the strength of Rangers.

“So he’ll need a lot of help, he’ll need a lot of support.

“Although he’s not over here, he’s doing a bit of quarantine, I’m sure he’ll be in touch with him and working on a lot of things just now.”
