Ange Postecoglou and Celtic officials jet out to Australia ahead of Sydney Super Cup discussions

Ange Postecoglou and Celtic officials jet out to Australia ahead of Sydney Super Cup discussions

ANGE POSTECOGLOU and a number of Celtic officials have jetted out to Australia ahead of the Sydney Super Cup getting underway in November.

The friendly tournament will take place during the World Cup later this year to allow clubs to continue ticking over.

Frank Lampard’s Everton will face Celtic in Sydney’s 83,500-capacity Accor Stadium on November 20 after stepping in following the withdrawal of Rangers.

The Ibrox club pulled out after backlash from fans about their participation in the tournament.

Sydney and Wester Sydney Warriors are also taking part in the four-team event, and preparations are well underway.

Tournament organisers today shared a picture of Celtic representatives at the Accor Stadium.

They tweeted: "Welcome to Sydney, @CelticFC! Executives from the Scottish Premiership champions have arrived at #AccorStadium as preparations ramp up for the #SydneySuperCup this November.

"Be here when Celtic, managed by legendary Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou take on the Frank Lampard-managed @Everton in the feature game of the three-match series on Sunday 20 November.

"Ange and Celtic officials will be out and about in Sydney this week as planning continues for the Sydney Super Cup, which will also feature A-League clubs @wswanderersfc and @SydneyFC."

Celtic and Rangers had initially agreed to face each other outside of Scotland for the first time but a number of supporters on both sides were unhappy about the cooperation between the Glasgow rivals.

Rangers fans seemed particularly displeased given Celtic manager Postecoglou, a former Australia head coach, featured in some of the promotional material.
