Ange Postecoglou admits Celtic's Kyogo selection mistake as he rues James Forrest absence

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has admitted he should have started Kyogo Furuhashi through the middle against Rangers.

The Hoops gaffer went with Kyogo on the left and Odsonne Edouard as his main striker but hooked the Frenchman shortly after Rangers scored.

Edouard had missed a sitter in the first half when he should have burst the net and Postecoglou admitted he made a mistake with his team selection.

But he felt his hand was forced with the absence of James Forrest, who continues to miss out with injury issues continuing for the Scotland winger.

A debut was handed to Josip Juranovic at left back with Kyogo in front of him and they got little change out of Leon Balogun, but Postecoglou feels that could have changed for Celtic if he had started the Japanese hitman at centre forward.

He said: "I just felt the game would open up and Tommy (Rogic) would give us a little bit of a spark.

"I just thought Kyogo would be much more of a threat down the middle, to be honest I probably should have started him there to begin with but obviously with Forrest out we're a little bit short in the wide areas.

"That's why we started with him out to the left but I knew with his speed getting Kyogo in the middle was going to cause them problems and that was the main reason.

"Partly it was them scoring the goal, obviously that changed things."
