Andy Waterworth pens tribute to 'Linfield family' after leaving club

Andy Waterworth has penned an emotional tribute to the "Linfield family" after leaving the club.

The striker scored 190 goals in 349 appearances for the Blues during a stellar eight-year spell at Windsor Park.

During that time he won four league titles and two doubles, including this season's Premiership and Irish Cup success.

Waterworth will be fondly remembered for his two hat-tricks in successive weeks as Linfield clinched the league and Irish Cup back in 2017.

In his final game last Saturday he signed off with a goal, scored in front of his wife and new-born daughter Mia at Solitude.

In a statement shared on the Linfield website, Waterworth said it had been a "privilege and honour" to represent the club.

He said: "To the Linfield family. Thank you.

"It's been a privilege and honour to play for this great club. To my managers, board, supporters and team mates, you have no idea the impact the time at Linfield has had on my life. You have all been very much a part of the journey.

"As sad as I am to say goodbye, I feel overwhelmed by your support and reflect with nothing but pride on wearing the blue jersey.

"'Once a blue, always a blue'.

"Andy #55."

Waterworth will continue his Irish League career with Glenavon after being unable to commit to Linfield's new full-time model.

He will be joined at Mourneview Park by former Blues teammates Mark Stafford and Mark Haughey who have also agreed deals with Gary Hamilton's Lurgan Blues.
