The presence of cats in the lives of artists Andy Warhol and Ai Weiwei is the inspiration behind the children’s exhibition, Studio Cats.

Andy Warhol lived in a New York apartment with 25 cats named Sam, while Ai Weiwei’s studio is home to over 30 cats – and one named Garfield, who winks. Weiwei has developed the side exhibition especially for children, reflecting his interest in cats for both their independence and their 21st century status as internet memes.

The Studio Cats exhibition hosts interactive cat-themed activities, a new commissioned wallpaper by Weiwei, and rarely seen drawings of cats from Warhol’s small press books Holy Cats and One Blue Pussy. It also includes film and photographic portraits of the artists, demonstrating their deep affection for their feline friends.
