Andy Warhol, the leading 20th century pop-artist, and Ai Weiwei, the Chinese contemporary artist and activist, come together in a major new exhibition developed by the National Gallery of Victoria and the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh.
Over 200 of Warhol’s most significant works will be featured, such as Campbell’s Soup Cans, Electric Chair, Mao, Elvis, Flowers and celebrity portraits, while Ai Weiwei, who has spoken of Warhol’s influence on his work, will present new commissions along with key works from the past four decades.
Visitors can explore the similarities and divergences in their practices, as the exhibition examines their influences on contemporary life. It includes a wide range of artistic mediums including immersive installations, painting, sculpture, film, and – as per Ai Weiwei’s significant following – social media.
