Andy Walker fires Celtic 'only get bigger' warning to Rangers with Hoops eyeing up Treble

Andy Walker reckons the gap between Celtic and Rangers in the league will only get BIGGER as he warned Michael Beale he will need to 'spend wisely.

The Hoops won the first piece of silverware on offer this campaign as they defeated their Old Firm rivals at Hampden to lift the League Cup. Kyogo Furuhashi was the hero on the day as he fired home a close-range double. Not only did it mean trophy success for Celtic but it was also a first defeat on the card of the new Ibrox boss.

Pundit Andy Walker reckons his old club will have eyes firmly set on Treble even though that won't be discussed publicly. The league stands at a nine point difference at this stage but he reckons that gap will only increase between now and May. He told Sky Sports: "Ange Postecoglou is just used to winning. I think you are right to highlight that nine point gap.

"I think it will only get bigger. Celtic are on an astonishing run since they lost that game last September to St Mirren, but they bounced back so well from that defeat. They have got a nine point gap and they have still got Rangers to play a couple of times in the league, home and away, and I can only see them adding to that lead.

"The Scottish Cup can go anywhere, as anyone can win in 90 minutes. I don't think anyone at Celtic will speak about it publicly but they will certainly have their eye on yet another Treble."

Asked about Michael Beale's decision to leave out Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin from the Rangers starting team, he added: "I was a bit surprised. These are the two players that were identified in the January window to make Rangers better, to make a difference and give them more quality.

"The fact that they didn't play was a bit surprising, but I think Michael Beale must realise he has not got the same depth of squad and quality that Celtic have. I'm sure these two players will play from now until the end of the season, but Rangers have a number of players out of contract, some who they would like to keep.

"It takes a lot of money to get the type of quality Celtic have. I am not convinced Rangers have that amount of money. I think Michael Beale will have to spend wisely."
