Andy Ruiz said his family members made $10K each betting on him to beat Anthony Joshua

Andy Ruiz Jr. pulled off an absolute stunner when he defeated Anthony Joshua on Saturday to claim all three of his heavyweight titles. In doing so, Ruiz became the first heavyweight champion of Mexican descent and overcame some long odds in the process.

It just made for an easy pay day for his family.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, Ruiz reflected on the shocking fight and talked about being such an underdog. When Kimmel asked if his family placed bets on him to win, the new champ had quite the story to tell.

Ruiz went into the fight as an 11-1 underdog, and members of his family each went on to place $1,000 bets on Ruiz to pull off the upset. They cashed in on around $10,000 in profits apiece.

Ruiz himself took home an estimated $7 million for defeating Joshua, so it was a solid weekend all around for the Ruiz household.

He went on to say that his camp is already in talks on the contractually mandated rematch with Joshua. Ruiz expects that fight to take place in either November or December.
