Andy Ruiz Jr's diet plan for Anthony Joshua heavyweight rematch

Andy Ruiz Jr had promised to weigh in lighter for his rematch with Anthony Joshua - but ended up weighing a stone MORE.

Ruiz Jr was criticised for his chubby appearance before the rivals first met in June but he proved the doubters wrong.

On that occasion he only had six weeks to prepare after replacing drug cheat Jarrell Miller, but this time he has had a full 12-week camp.

The man who caused the upset of the year by beating the unified heavyweight champion as a 25-1 outsider has been on a diet as he looks to improve his mobility and speed.

So what has the Mexican ‘Destroyer’ been eating?

“We wake up and have an omelette with mushroom and spinach and avocado,” Ruiz Jr.’s nutritionist and chef - told Sky Sports. "Sometimes he asks for hash browns too."

How about lunch? "Andy likes to keep lunch lighter because he trains later in the day. He will have a chicken salad or a chicken wrap," he adds.

Dinner is pasta or rice with Ruiz taking a liking to the rice in the Middle East.

His regimented eating plan does allow for snacks howeever.

"Remember, this is a heavyweight camp. Andy isn’t a lightweight...We have three full meals and snacks in between," the chef said.

"He might snack on a wrap or a sandwich, something that he travels with. Andy has a lot of nuts and fruit too."

Treats are allowed too, and tacos are Ruiz Jr.’s favourite.

According to his chef, "Andy loves the el pastor con queso tacos. They put cheese inside the taco and melt it - we get an assortment but he loves the marinated pork."

Steak is the Destroyer’s favourite meat, though: “He loves to eat steaks...Whenever we can fit in a steak, we do.

"We try to keep the steak leaner and I try to give him more chicken or fish, if I can."
