Andy Ruiz Jr makes "history" vow ahead of Anthony Joshua rematch

Andy Ruiz Jr has vowed to repeat his party trick and stop Anthony Joshua in their heavyweight rematch.

Ruiz stunned the world when he dropped the champion four times before stopping him in the seventh round in June.

The Mexican-American did so at just six weeks' notice after replacing drug cheat Jarrell Miller for the New York showdown.

Joshua immediately triggered the rematch clause in his contract and the rivals have both touched down in Saudi Arabia for their sequel on Saturday week.

The pair will touch gloves once again at a purpose-built 15,000-capacity arena in the desert which will be hauled down again following the final bell.

And as he arrived in the Middle East, Ruiz said: "It feels good. You know I made history in New York and I’ll make history again in Saudi."

Ruiz and Joshua both look set to weigh in lighter than they did six months ago with the Brit looking noticeably leaner in training.

The champion, who will put his three belts on the line, expects to come in eight pounds lighter having been ridiculed before the first fight for his chubby look.

And Ruiz doubts whether Joshua's new physique will do him any favours.

"I saw videos where he looked slimmer. I don't know if that's an advantage or a disadvantage," he told Sky Sports.

"I don't know if he will take the punches as well as he did when he weighed more."

"Me? People are saying I lost too much weight, I won't be strong, he will move me around. I am losing eight pounds from what I weighed on June 1. I'll still be the same, I'll still be strong.

"AJ has always been in shape. He has always looked really good, really cut up."
