Andy Robertson takes underhand swipe at Chelsea over Mohamed Salah mistake

Andy Robertson has hit out at Chelsea for 'discarding' Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.

Salah arrived at Stamford Bridge in an £11million deal from Basel in January 2014 but made just 19 appearances in all competitions for the Blues and was sent out to Fiorentina and Roma on loan.

The Egyptian signed permanently for Roma in the summer of 2016 before arriving on Merseyside for a club-record fee 12 months later.

Salah has established himself as one of the world's premier marksmen with the Reds, netting 70 times in 103 appearances so far in two seasons.

He will bid for his first major trophy at Anfield when Liverpool take on Tottenham in the Champions League final in Madrid on Saturday.

Robertson, who has also established himself as a key man in the Reds' side, spoke to the Players' Tribune about his hard work to reach the top being under appreciated.

And he identified Salah and another of his Liverpool teammates as being in the same boat.

One of the best things about football is that there are loads of people like me," said the Scot. "Most players get to the top because they are so driven. The Liverpool team that I’m a part of has no shortage of players like that.

"Take Virgil van Dijk, for example, the best centre back in the world. How many coaches and scouts looked at him and thought he wasn’t destined for the top? He’ll tell you himself that there were plenty.

"Mo Salah, one of the best finishers in the game today, was once discarded as not being good enough for a top Premier League side."
