Andy Robertson sends Chelsea warning as Liverpool star makes injury admission

Andy Robertson looks set to be fit for Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool on Saturday, the defender has confirmed.

Scotland’s captain missed Jurgen Klopp’s side’s opening game of the Premier League season against Norwich City due to an ankle ligament injury picked up in a pre-season friendly with Athletic Bilbao at the start of the month.

However, he was an unused substitute in the 2019/2020 Champions’ victory over Burnley at Anfield in their second game of the campaign, and has warned Chelsea that he will be ready to face them at the weekend.

“I’m back in full training now. I fully trained on Friday, just one day before the game - maybe a bit ahead of schedule but I think the physios just wanted rid of me, to be honest!” Robertson told Liverpoolfc.com.

“For me, as soon as I did it and I got the scan results I said, ‘I think Burnley is in my sights’ and there was a couple of people who said, ‘Yeah, you’ve got a chance’ so I managed to cling on to them and a couple of people said I had no chance so I avoided them until it was more realistic.

“Now I’ve trained today and I’ll have a full week of training so let’s see what happens against Chelsea. But I’ll be ready, I’ll be ready to play, and like I said I’ll hopefully be fit for the rest of the season now.”

The 27-year-old may also have an extra spring in his step after signing a new deal with club until 2026, but Thomas Tuchel’s side shouldn’t be too worried by the left-backs return.

After all, the Blues are in fine form themselves after beating Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates on Saturday - a victory that followed a 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on the opening day – and as club-record signing Romelu Lukaku has already found his goalscoring touch, they’ll be confident they can get a result on Merseyside.
