Andy Robertson's verdict on Kaide Gordon after 16-year-old's impressive Liverpool debut

Liverpool's youngsters were impressive on Tuesday night as a team mixed with youth and experience beat Norwich 3-0 in the Carabao Cup.

Jurgen Klopp made nine changes to the team that beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday, with 16-year-old Kaide Gordon starring in attack on his competitive debut.

Liverpool's starting line-up averaged an age of just 23, with Jordan Henderson and Andrew Robertson coming off the bench to add senior experience to see out the tie at Carrow Road.

Robertson was full of praise for Liverpool's youngsters following the game, highlighting Gordon on his Instagram following the final whistle.

The Scotland international re-posted an image of himself with Gordon that the 16-year-old had originally shared, and captioned it with "Here he is" after clearly being impressed by his talents.

Gordon has caught the eye at youth level and during Liverpool's pre-season campaign this summer, but made his first competitive debut for Klopp's side, playing all 90 minutes in the win against Norwich.

Robertson replaced Kostas Tsimikas with 25 minutes remaining and played out the rest of the game on the field with Gordon, but also shared the field with Liverpool youngsters Conor Bradley and Tyler Morton, who are both 18.

It was a highly impressive performance from Klopp's side with Bradley making the only mistake as he gave away a penalty, but 22-year-old goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher saved the resulting spot-kick, sparing the youngsters blushes.

Robertson also posted a message aimed at all of Liverpool's young stars, as he said "Young lads incredible" following the full time whistle at Carrow Road, and it is likely that Klopp will give the teenagers another go in the next round.

Klopp has become known for developing youngsters, and Curtis Jones is an excellent role model for all of Liverpool's youth prospects, as the 20-year-old made his 50th appearance for his boyhood club against Norwich.

The German boss has never won a domestic cup in England, and Klopp is extremely loyal to his young stars even when the tournaments progress to the latter stages.

His current group are extremely exciting though, and Liverpool's depth has impressed already this season, with five first-team centre-backs in contention, with Tsimikas rising to the challenge as a back-up full-back.

Kelleher has proved an extremely valuable back-up goalkeeper, and Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi both scored in the absence of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota as an unused substitute.

Klopp will be hoping that this could be the year that he leads his side to a domestic cup, with Premier League and Champions League campaigns starting off excellently also.
