Andy Robertson's split Steven Gerrard loyalties as Celtic mad defender makes grudging Rangers admission

Boyhood Celtic fan Andy Robertson has never concealed his love for the club despite being released from the Parkhead youth setup as a youngster.

And that's led to some split loyalties when the subject of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is brought up.

The Scotland left-back is surrounded by iconography of the current Rangers manager at training at Kirkby and on matchdays - which has left him in a tricky spot.

But he reckons Gerrard will be the Reds gaffer at some point - and he described his work at Ibrox as "unbelievable".

In a sit-down with another former Anfield star in Jamie Carragher, Robertson told the Greatest Games Podcast : "It’s a difficult situation isn’t it?

"You come into Liverpool’s training ground. He’s plastered all over the place, everyone loves him, everyone wants him to do well.

"I want him to do well .. but I’ve been brought up as a Celtic fan to not like anything to do with Rangers."

Carragher quipped: "So that’s an exclusive - Andy Robertson doesn’t like Steven Gerrard!"

But the left-back was smart enough to walk it back, as he admitted Celtic's fabled milestone of 10 In A Row is fading away.

He replied: "Not quite, because I think he’ll end up here one day. All jokes aside, he’s done an unbelievable job up there, he's closed the gap.

"He’s taken it to a new level this season and Celtic have struggled to keep up.

"I hope over the next six months Celtic close the gap and get to 10 In A Row because it would be historic – but it’s not looking too good just now."
