Andy Robertson's reaction to Liverpool thrashing on Scotland reunion with John McGinn

Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has opened up on his discussion with Liverpool ’s Andy Robertson as they reunited on international duty.

Villa stunned Premier League champions Liverpool with a 7-2 win at Villa Park at the weekend with McGinn scoring the third goal.

The two Scotland team-mates linked up again this week ahead of back-to-back Nations League games against Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

There was potential for an awkward reunion with Liverpool’s painful defeat still raw for left-back Robertson.

But McGinn says he was “respectful” about the game when it was brought up and stated he was prepared to give the Midlands side their dues after a stunning victory.

"He was good, respectful," the midfielder told Sky Sports regarding his reunion with Robertston.

"I think he understands.

"He's won just about every other game over the past three or four years, so he can gives us this one."

On the match itself, McGinn added: "It was a bit strange. Obviously, I didn't expect to beat the world champions so convincingly.

"So confidence is high in the Villa camp and I can only try to use the confidence I have at the minute to help my country. Hopefully, I can do that."

Robertson, meanwhile, told Liverpool’s official website after the game they were simply not good enough.

He said: ”We weren't good enough, it's as simple as that. That wasn't the Liverpool that have played two-and-a-half years of consistent, high-level performances.

"We were nowhere near it, but it was up to John and his team-mates to capitalise on that, and they certainly did that.

"All credit goes to them, because they were excellent on the night.

"You know, three deflected goals and things like that, but you can't argue - the three points went to the right place.

"Hopefully, John come full of confidence (for Scotland duty)."
