Andy Robertson reveals next football dream after Liverpool Champions League success

Andy Robertson is desperate to recreate his magic moments with Liverpool in a Scotland shirt.

The Scotland skipper is still on a high after helping Jurgen Klopp’s men to Champions League glory with a 2-0 against Tottenham in Madrid last Saturday, becoming the first Scot to win the continent's biggest game for 22 years.

But Robertson, who has won 29 caps for Scotland, says the feelings of ecstasy will be just as sweet if he can help end his country’s 21-year wait to reach a major tournament.

Ahead of Steve Clarke’s first game in charge against Cyprus on Saturday, Robertson said: “We want to bring success to this nation. Once you get a feeling for trophies and going far in European tournaments with your club then you want to replicate that with your country.

“Qualifying for a major tournament would be a huge step in that direction but we know how hard that will be and what’s required to make it a reality.

“I can’t tell you how we’ll feel until we do it but hopefully you’re asking me next year when we have completed that qualification.”

Clarke has been called in to pick up the pieces after Alex McLeish’s reign crumbled on the back of March’s shambolic 3-0 defeat to minnows Kazakhstan.

Robertson added: “It’s about getting his tenure off to a good start and the only way we can do that is with a win.”

After hosting Cyprus Scotland face a tricky-looking trip to World Cup semi-finalists Belgium on Tuesday.

Scotland have not qualified for a major tournament since the 1998 World Cup, where they were eliminated in the group stages after suffering defeats to Brazil and Morocco and a draw with Norway.

They are currently ranked 44th in the world by FIFA, while their opponents Cyprus are 89th.
