Andy Robertson reveals how he'll balance Liverpool partying with Scotland duty

Andy Robertson has told new gaffer Steve Clarke he’s ready for Scotland duty despite basking in Champions League glory with Liverpool.

The Anfield star is still partying on Merseyside after the Reds lifted the trophy for the sixth time with victory over Spurs in Madrid on Saturday night.

Robertson became the first Scot to win the European Cup in 22 years after the 2-0 victory at the Wanda Metropolitano.

He vowed to savour the achievement with family and team-mates in Liverpool but assured Clarke he’ll be captaining his country against Cyprus this weekend.

The Scotland squad will gather on Monday for the crucial Euro 2020 double-header. which also includes a trip to Belgium next Tuesday.

Robertson plans to hook up with Clarke for the first time tomorrow and – despite a gruelling end to his season – will declare himself fit for Hampden.

He said: “Hopefully, I’ll meet up with the squad on Tuesday. I’ll celebrate this success in the appropriate manner because we’ve got two big qualifiers coming up, which are important.

“A Champions League win doesn’t come around that often, so I have to enjoy it. But I’ll be ready to go on Saturday, I want to play.

“There are no worries over that but I’ll savour this first.”

Meanwhile, Robertson insists he’s now after a Premier League title after becoming a Champions League winner with the Reds.

Liverpool narrowly missed out to Manchester City this term but made up for it by conquering Europe just a year after their final defeat to Real Madrid.

Robertson said: “What’s next? We need to kick on now, we’ll want the Premier League and Champions League next season.

“All the talk in the build up to this game was that this team hadn’t won trophies. That under this manger, Jurgen Klopp, we hadn’t achieved anything yet.

“People were saying, despite how well he’s done, he hadn’t produced a trophy.

“Well, he’s produced it now but he won’t let us rest on our laurels. It’s about going and getting more now. We’ll be hungry to do that next season.

“But we’ll enjoy this one first.”
