Andy Robertson responds to Premier League request by name-checking Steven Gerrard

Liverpool fullback Andy Robertson has named Reds legend Steven Gerrard as his idol growing up.

The Scotsman has become a crucial part of the success experienced at Anfield in recent times.

He has had a rapid rise since playing for Queens Park in Glasgow as recently as 2013 before moves to Dundee and Hull.

But as a youngster in Scotland the now Rangers boss, as well as Arsenal legend Thierry Henry, were the two Premier League players he admired most.

The 26-year-old divulged the information during a question and answer session on his Twitter.

Robertson also labelled last year's Champions League final win over Tottenham as the best game he's been involved in.

Although he reserved special mention for their 4-3 win over Manchester City in January 2018 - the first time Pep Guardiola's side had lost that season.

The Scotsman, who previously played against current team-mate Virgil van Dijk north of the border, claimed the Dutchman is the one player he's lucky he doesn't have to face.

Robertson said he would "head all my crosses clear".

The left-back also weighed in on the Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo debate, but put a unique spin on it.

"You heard Trent, Hendo!" was his response when asked.

He and Trent Alexander-Arnold have been involved in an internal assists competition for over 18 months now.

The Liverpool academy graduate is a fan favourite at Anfield and is tipped to move into midfield later in his career such is his quality.

So far this season Alexander-Arnold has notched 12 assists - some five more than Robertson.

That total though still leaves him short of Kevin De Bruyne at the top.

Last term it was a far tighter affair with the Scotsman narrowly edged out despite racking up 11 himself.
