Andy Robertson is ready to step into an emergency centre-back role if required as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp continues to grapple with an injury crisis.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are facing a battle to play again this season after suffering serious knee injuries, leaving Joel Matip as the Reds' only senior recognised centre-back.
Matip has only recently recovered from his own fitness problems with Academy duo Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips having stepped into the first team during the last month.
Klopp is hopeful Fabinho, who has impressed as a makeshift centre-back, will be available for Sunday's visit of Premier League leaders Leicester City having returned to training after almost a month out with a hamstring complaint.
But with the Reds about to embark on an arduous run of 12 games in 42 days, the Liverpool boss is expected to heavily rotate his resources with Robertson willing to bolster the central defensive options.
"I don't think I've done it before but if the manager thinks that's an option, then I'll play it and do it to the best of my ability," said the Scotland international.
"Whatever the manager asks of me, I'll do it. Look, if that becomes an option or that becomes the case, I'll do it to the best of my ability and I'll try my best, like I do in any other position.
"The centre-backs have been hit hard – Joey and Virg long-term injuries, which is devastating, and Fab on his way back and things like that. We've still got options there. If I'm one of them, so be it. "
Robertson added: "All the lads here, we can all adapt to different positions and do our best in those positions.
"We might need to do that more this season because we've been hit with quite a few injuries and there's no saying that there might be more to come. But hopefully everyone now is fit and we're only adding to the squad instead of taking away.
"Hopefully there's a couple that are pretty close and hopefully in a couple of weeks our squad will be back to being a really strong one."
Robertson handed Liverpool a fitness scare during the international break when he was unable to feature in Scotland's UEFA Nations League clash against Slovakia last Sunday due to a hamstring problem.
The left-back, though, returned to play 90 minutes in his country's 1-0 defeat in Israel on Wednesday and, speaking to liverpoolfc.com, he said: "I feel fit, feel ready to go. I think I just got a tighter hamstring than usual against Man City (a fortnight ago), first and foremost.
"Then obviously the game on Thursday for Scotland was a huge one and 120 minutes and penalties had took its toll on me.
"Sunday, I wasn't ready and just took a bit more time to recover from the game. But there wasn't any real concerns about it."
